Our society nowadays is a society governed by standards. It is full of expectations and people who unconsciously set things that you have to meet for you to feel like you are accepted in the society.

The Internet, particularly social media is so powerful, it can instantly manipulate our minds and the way we see things. It can easily influence our decisions and the way we behave or act. There are so many things that you can see on the internet which sometimes isn’t appropriate for you. We see tons of beautiful girls, we see perfect relationships, we see happy friendships, we see beautiful body goals, great achievements and so many other beautiful things. We admire them, at one point in our lives (or maybe until now) we’d love to experience that, we’d love to be in that situation and we want to feel beautiful. But, as we put ourselves into those things, the more we look at them, the more we are wanting them, we unconsciously are setting standards in our minds that we need to meet for us to be able to fit in the society.

The Internet is such a beautiful thing, the only problem is that it isn’t used properly, sometimes it’s used to put people down, it’s used to destroy someone’s confidence and sometimes it changes someone’s life. There are so many standards that you have to meet and so there goes the bullies, those who mock people. If you aren’t able to meet those standards, possible things to happen are, you will get bullied, you will not feel accepted, people will tease you, you will be mocked by people, you will be called names, they will make fun of you, you will be mistreated. So the tendency is, we get to cope with those things, we try to meet those that we unconsciously change ourselves to be accepted and that’s not the right thing to do. No one should be holding the real them just for people to accept them. We shouldn’t live with people’s opinions, we shouldn’t let those manipulate us. We are the ones living ourselves and nobody else, so why should we let other people control what we want to do and who we want to be? You shouldn’t be afraid to be who you really want to be, whether you are not that beautiful, (but of course everyone is beautiful), whether you don’t have that gorgeous body everyone wants to look at, whether you don’t like adventures, whether you don’t have a perfect relationship, whether you don’t have the perfect company or the perfect friendship, that’s okay. As long as you’re happy with what you are doing and with who you are, everything’s totally fine, just make sure that you aren’t stepping on someone or you are not hurting someone else’s feelings. So what if people won’t like you? For sure, there will be tons there who will really like you and appreciate you, don’t waste your time trying to be the person they want you to be. Spend your time to be who you are and be happy with what you are. Don’t care too much with those words because they are not worth it, find the real ones, because the real ones, the real friends, the real people will never care how you look like.

And one more thing to remember, never be deceived of what you see on the internet. You can control what you want to show, of course, people won’t show everything, they’d want to just share the beautiful and positive ones, for sure they themselves also have their down times, for sure they also have their unglamorous moments and life isn’t perfect, perfect relationships aren’t real and so do perfect friendships. Every once in a while, you’ll face a struggle, you will be tested and that’s okay because those problems will be the ones to mold you to be the best version that you can be and you ain’t need a perfect one, you just need the best one. So get out of there, put away all those standards, don’t mind the people and just chin up, be who you are, love yourself and you’ll find happiness. Everyone in this world deserves to be happy but in a way that they want to be and not by changing for others.
